Senior representatives from The Little Business Academy and Bexley Council, with support from DCSF, Government Office for London and Together for Children met this week to discuss the findings of a detailed report into the long term sustainability of the Nursery.
In summary the nursery will remain open and will be operated by an experienced childcare provider, providing quality integrated care and early education (0 to 5 years) as their core business and whose ethos and approach is compatible with that of the overall Academy. A preferred provider has been chosen and final negotiations are taking place between senior representatives from The Academy and the provider. A new business plan will be put in place to keep the nursery on a secure footing and ensure it remains a high quality setting delivering the very best care to children.
However it should be noted that at present it remains the case that, in order for the nursery to be a financially viable prospect, it will be necessary to look at increasing parental fees and reducing running and staffing costs through a re-structure, which is likely to include some redundancies. It is therefore our intention to continue with the consultation process with nursery staff in this respect.
It is proposed that The Nursery transfer over as soon as possible to minimise further disruption to both staff and parents.

In September 2007, the Academy will be starting a pilot study into the use of PDA hand-held computers.
The government is very interested in the use of devices to improve standards in education and the Academy has secured funding to run a pilot project in Year 8 in the secondary section.
As this is a scientific study designed to research the effectiveness of the PDA, only half of Year 8 can be given the opportunity to take part in the study.
We will write again in September to invite the parents of those students taking part to a meeting to explain the project in more detail.
Best wishes for a relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday.
