Year 9 Brilliant Club graduates at Cambridge!

A few months ago, the school’s Year 9 Gifted & Talented students applied for a place in The Brilliant Club, which is a club which connects school students and top universities through sending PhD students to deliver university-style tutorials to small groups of students on a specific topic. There were 24 students chosen for the Brilliant Club and our first trip was to the University of Sussex, which was very exciting. We were given the first part of our 6 week course work, on either a Biology or History topic, and met our PhD tutors who helped us throughout the whole project, helping us work towards writing a 1,500 word dissertation!

Once we finished the project we were invited to Cambridge University to receive our certificates for completing the course. At Cambridge University it was a lot bigger than we all expected because it wasn’t just one whole University. There were many colleges associated with the University and they had houses like we do in the Business Academy like Green House or Blue House, except in Cambridge they were called things like ‘Christians’. We also visited the Cambridge Museum which had priceless artefacts, and none of them were replicas. Instead they were all the original pieces from when they were first created, and some were over 500 years old! After visiting the museum we met with our PHD tutors who gave us our results for our dissertations, which had been marked at University grades. Everyone was exceptional, and we were also all told how to further improve for the future. Overall it was an unforgettable experience.
